Kai, Queen of Northboro
The streets of Aendriathrad were crowded, and a coach would most likely be an unwelcome addition. Having visited Vardendale a few times before, the sylph queen knew well enough that all she needed to protect her from assassination were her griffon and her advisor, who doubled as a bodyguard and friend. They walked down the city streets on an outing for air and witnessed a strange sight. There was a boy trying to rob a young woman with a griffon. Not many seemed to take much notice, even when the woman called out. Kai could feel Alexander stiffen as he got a better look at the boy's face before he loosened up again. "What is it?" the girl inquired in a reserved whisper. "Nothing. Don't worry about it, but we have to keep going. Wouldn't want to attract any unnecessary attention." "Alright. We shall go. But later I will inquire again about this in my private quarters and I expect that you will answer less vaguely." "Yes, m'lady." As they sped past the small event, the queen's griffon began to sniff at the pet of the stranger. However, the young woman would not have that. It would completely jeopardize their goal of an outing without drawing too much attention. Sylphs generally were easy enough to spot in the first place and, given that they could only be found in the Frost and her expensive clothes, she had to be either noble or royal. Anyhow, it would be unwise to stay out any longer than usual. "Come along now, Nox. It's best if we get back soon."
Thomas Hampton
It was a busy day. He hated busy days. What he would give to be able to sleep and relax forever! Yet...deep down, Thomas knew that he was too lonely to be able to stand being alone for that long. Still, since most of the more driven magi hated him, the young man was forced to spend a lot of his time only in the company of his shadow and his wits. And with those wits he wrote several scholarly papers. Those he published often became esteemed by professors in a few different lands, but he refused to accept any payment or compensation for his writings. Instead, he opted for a lazy day in town doing nothing while the college dawdled and struggled to teach him anything even though he was failing due to lack of effort or any sort of zeal. While he folded his hands behind his head and roamed without aim or direction, he bumped into a girl. Yes, yes... This girl he knew of - though Thomas was pretty adept at putting faces to names anyway. Mika was her name. She owned a golem too. Ah well. It didn't really matter to him anyhow. "Sorry," he mumbled halfheartedly as he started on again. "Don't send the golem after me, 'kay? I'm on my way to taking an afternoon nap. Though...I can't say I would do anything to stop you..."

((It's funny because he didn't take anything. )) Hunter heard her speak but he didn't understand anything she said, but she kept approaching him. She held out her hand as if for him to put something in it. Did she want him to give her something? He was confused he didn't have anything but his clothes, is that what she wanted? But why would she want his clothes? She was still there and he couldn't back up any further, his mind began to contemplate what she would do if he didn't giver her what she wanted. His eyes glanced her up and down quickly before suddenly spotting the weapon at her side. He began to think that she was going to kill him if he didn't comply with her wishes, but he didn't understand what she wanted, she just spoke and he didn't understand. Was he going to die? It was apparent he wouldn't be able to get out of this unless he could understand what she was saying. His eyes flashed red again and he took action. He waited for her to repeat whatever she said before he charged at her. He avoided her hand and got right into her face before he locked his lips to hers. His eyes returned to their yellow color as the magic began to work, he started hearing words pop into his head as he thought about what he had done, he began to have the ability to speak the words that she had been speaking all along. Maybe he'd survive after all, he wasn't sure where the idea had come from but it popped into his head and it worked. ((I was thinking that it might more interesting to have Arryn have an adverse reaction to the magic from the kiss. Like maybe she passes out or is somehow incapacitated for a while.))

[But she doesn't know that lol. XD]
Arryn glowered at the boy, her hand still facing upward. The woman was very angry. How could someone steal from her? But the boy charged at her. Yelping, Arryn attempted to pull out her rapier, but the boy kissed her. The boy didn't do it because he liked her; she could feel some magic. But before she knew it, she collapsed, unconscious.
[Stupid fforum deleted my post... morning!]

Mika and Rusty were moving through town just to pick up some food and water before they traveled elsewhere. She was planning to leave Balefall. Nothing was left there for her. She wanted to see more of the world. The naval city, Violetbeach, was quite a walk away, even for Rusty, who could run the distance. So, she was stocking up for their trek. She glided through the market with considerable ease, Golem in tow. She was babbling on to her silent friend as she carried a crate of dried fruits and canteens. Suddenly, someone bumped int her. It wasn't as if it was the first person she bumped into. The city was active and alive. But he knew her name, so he had to be a mage, since only they really had records of her. "Oh. Rusty? He wouldn't harm a fly. Isn't that right, big guy?" The Golem gave his equivalent of a smile, but lacking a mouth, may have been lost on the stranger. "You're- You're from the college right?" She started to walk alongside him for sake of conversation. "How is everyone these days? Still blathering about righteousness and 'real' knowledge?"

Thomas Hampton When the woman started walking beside him, Thomas lowered his arms as they took up too much space lengthwise. Listening quietly to her remarks, he shrugged and looked over at her, setting his apathetic gaze on her eyes. Though his own eyes were half-closed and it looked like he was about to fall asleep, his voice was no less alive than the average person's. Sometimes that threw people off, but no matter. "Yeah, I guess. I stopped paying attention to people like that after I left for this province. Too many preachers. When's a guy got time to take afternoon naps with people like that?" Taking a brief pause, he looked up at the sky and watched the clouds roll lazily through the blue ocean of atmosphere. What would it be like to ride on one of those? He could study to make a golem like Mika's out of water vapor, but there'd really be no point. He had a bed that he could pretend was a cloud, though it was made of poking straw and thin, moth-bitten fabric. Still worked fine for napping, though. He'd slept on the ground for a few months before finally being disowned. Not like he could complain. If his parents were so worked up about such a natural thing, he was probably better off without them. That was what Thomas figured, at least. "But at least you have someone to talk to, right? Or someone to take you places while you nap..."

"I suppose." Mika said. She grinned up at the metal man following behind. "He's pretty great, but he isn't much of a conversationalist. Sometimes I just want to hear someone else's voice." Plus this guy seemed alright. "But where are my manners? I'm Mika Barish, this chap right here is Rusty, and you are? Well, sleepy from the sounds of it, but what's you're name?" Maybe she'd make a friend out of this stranger? You never know! Maybe even a travelling partner? That would be great! He was a mage, of course, and unlike her seemed to be a proper one. That was exciting! She loved magic, and when she got to use it, she was always exhilarated. Rusty, unlike his partner in crime, thought the man was dull. He seemed disinterested in the world and he couldn't understand why Mika had to strike up a conversation with him. As much as he loved her, she was flighty. He idled himself by poking at one of the hovering chunks of metal that formed part of his arm.

Hunter was about to run off now that Arryn seemed distracted but as he started to run towards the street he saw Arryn begin to collapse. He rushed back and caught her and helped her to the ground gently. No, this wasn't what he wanted! He didn't want to hurt anyone this time! All he wanted was some food! Why did she have to react so harshly towards him? Why did she force him to use magic? He questioned everything about the situation while he picked up the fallen girl and tried to run off to find help. His ankle hurt though and he wasn't able to move quickly. "H...help..." he spoke. The first time in his life he was able to speak, though his first word wasn't what most people would expect. His voice was breathy, as if he struggled to say the words after running several miles at a dead sprint. He struggled to find the words to speak as the magic that was making him learn the language was not done working yet. "Need...to...help!" He said again as he walked slowly through the streets back to his home outside of the city. It was a long walk but when he finally made it he sighed in relief and set Arryn down on the ground next to the fire. He grabbed one of his animal skin blankets and covered Arryn to keep her warm. He gathered his remaining firewood and placed it within the fire ring and lit it with his breath. He then stood and left the cave to find more firewood to keep the pathetic flames going. He turned back as he reached the entrance and looked at the girl lying there, hoping she was ok. "Be ok..." he said. "Didn't...want harm." He finished before he ran off ignoring the pain in his own foot.

Thomas Hampton "Thomas Hampton. Pleased to meet you." He held out his hand for her to shake. Going on at a leisurely speaking pace, he glanced at the golem before smiling and looking up at the sky again. "So tell me. Are you a mage?" What a loaded question. Of course, it wasn't really important if she was a mage or not. What mattered was her stance on magic. With all the commotion surrounding its practice, even though she didn't seem to care that he was from the magic college, it was always safer to ask. And Thomas wasn't dumb enough to just go right ahead and ask what her allegiance was. He had to be careful, seeing as all he wanted was to have the luxury of napping in peace. Of course, with his skill and adaptability, he knew that a time would come when the war would start and he would be obliged to take part in it. Oh well. At least he was just in the midst of a casual conversation rather than a war.
(Sorry it's short and awful...)

((Your concept of short is... Surprisingly not so, Moose. Maybe my concept of decent length is just too short.))
"Yes! I mean no... I mean... Sorta." Mika said, albeit a bit sheepishly. "Oh, that's a horrible way to put it. Lemme see here..." She wasn't used to explaining what she could do so it was hard to find the words to. "Oh! Yes, I'm a mage, but only some of the time. I guess that doesn't help, either, does it? I can't control my magic, you see..." She babbled for a minute before coherently saying, "I only have magic sometimes. Other times I'm as plain as that man right there." She pointed to a shopkeeper. "I don't know why, either. I flunked out of the college because of it." She did, however, like to rub her marvelous creation in the college's face. They thought she was useless, and here she was, creating life. It was greatly ironic. She'd considered returning but with the school dismission of her achievement altogether, she wouldn't dare step foot in those halls as a student again.

Arryn was knocked out for a while, or so she felt when she woke up. She felt warm, which wasn't how she was expecting to feel. She expected to feel cold. Feel the cobblestone against her cheek. Finding herself robbed. But... she was warm. Opening her eyes, she looked around, trying not to turn her head. The smell of fire and smoke reached her nostrils again. Arryn sat up, frowning deeply. She was in a cave... Moongazer was wrapped around her, breathing evenly. She was worried. What if the people kidnapped her? She shivered, suddenly very afraid. That boy was a mage. Were the mages as dangerous as they said? Did they actually have living sacrifices? Whimpering, she pressed closer to Moongazer, who woke up and chittered as he nuzzled her.
Talbot strode through the streets, his hand on his blade. He had grown bored with simply flying around. Even though he was a dragon, he had to be quiet and make it seem like he was a normal human. This meant walking around the cities and working a bit. But those round things they called money were the source of life to these people. The tall and broad man growled under his breath as he sniffed the air. Where could he find some action...? Suddenly, a smell crossed his nose. Male. Not only a male, but a male dragon. A dragon in his territory? This was his city! He followed the scent until he found himself with a blue haired female and a male at her side. Growling, he gazed at the dragon. Whether he accepted his challenge or not, he would attack.
