The seventh installation of the Shadows saga has begun!
History
"It's kinda gloomy down here," the recruit noted quietly as a rat scampered over his shoes. Thoroughly disgusted, he drew himself back and let a tiny whimper out from his lips. Ah, the ones from up there were always so...pathetic.
"Shh. Don't be afraid. We're here to protect you." Venus, a woman who was particularly skilled with getting gullible people to come from the higher levels to join their order, stroked his back gently, wrapping her arms around him. One was frigid and hard and the other was warm and squishy. Yes, she'd suffered a horrible accident in her childhood, but that was commonplace among the low-level residents (admittedly, lost limbs weren't that common). The world was dog-eat-dog, after all.
"B-but-"
"Let me show you our headquarters. We all have our own homes, but this is where you are sure to find an assassin or two."
The place was small and made of a primitive kind of metal that the people before had called "steel". Or something. It was riddled with laser holes and other miscellaneous gaps in the plates that made it seem...unfriendly? And inside...people of all types were crowded densely in rank conditions where visibility was poor from the smoke of cannabis and cigars.
"So... What do you think?"
He couldn't even manage a word what with all the smoke. Leading him out gently, she smiled and gazed into his eyes tenderly, though her expression still appeared to be prompting him to speak.
"It's...um...interesting?"
"Will you stay? We need your support. You are chosen."
"I'll...," there was hesitation deep in his voice. It was as pathetic as ever. The word fit him so well. Venus would not have even wasted her breath on that punk if it were not for his connections and wealth. He was so...rich. She was sure their resident techie would be able to drain him dry soon. Though most thought she was named for her seductive approach, it was also possible that she was more like the Venus fly trap. Something which looked so alluring, but would only absorb the assets of others to get to the top. Sadly, it became a necessity to be so heartless - there were close to no prospects left for the assassins. After Abstergo had essentially taken over the world, the assassins were driven down to the first livable level to live in the filthy slums with the slaves and the smog. These were all thoughts that crossed every assassin cunning enough at one time or another.
But... I guess all that's alright. It's a dog-eat-dog world...
Plot
It's been this way for years. Assassins living like scum on level one. But it only takes one catalyst to turn the bitterest of enemies into the closest of allies. Such is the case with the catalyst that forced Abstergo, the popular institution that ruled the human race, to ask the lowly assassins for help. But their troubles would come in three. First, the attack from below, then the attack from within, and finally the attack from above. The alliance of the Assassin's Creed and Abstergo will have to use their people's unique abilities to their full extents to pull a success out, because survival just doesn't seem likely.
Setting
Six thousand years into the far-flung future, Earth has built up. The surface is dangerous and grimy, but the levels above increase in quality as they ascend. The assassins of old exist in the first level of twenty. After finally reaching a height almost dangerous, mankind expanded to the stars. They have orbital colonies around Earth and a planetary colony on Gliese, the nearest livable planet.
Gliese is covered with dome-shaped structures to protect against extreme temperatures; only a few thousand people have opted to live there. This is sharply in contrast to Earth, which has boxy buildings to maximize space on the planet, which is stuffed to the brim with people. The Earth's surface is much too dangerous for any human to live there and a person would most likely die instantly after venturing there. What does inhabit the wasteland is dangerous, radioactive, and will probably eat everything it sees.
