So wait, are you saying Imperial is better or Stormcloaks are? Because Imperial victory is better by far.

Giving people the right to worship what they please. The thought of banning a religion pisses me off.

Well, they didn't ban a religion. They banned the worship of Talos as a god because the Thalmor don't believe that a man can ascend to the height of a god! Think in terms of Christianity. In those terms, Talos (or Tiber Septim) becoming a God would be like people suddenly worshiping me as a god who reigns supreme with God himself. How would you as a Christian feel if people came up to you and told you that you have to start worshiping me in your Christian faith because I was now a God? You would disagree right? That's essentially what the Thalmor were doing, except they did it more aggressively and started a war. Granted there were a lot more factors involved in the war. But here's the catch, THOUSANDS of Imperial citizens and soldiers were dying. The Thalmor was just TOO MUCH for the Imperials (at the HEIGHT of their power) to beat. So, now we're at the White-Gold Concordat, the treaty to end the war and save thousands maybe even millions of people. The Thalmor demand the worship of Talos be banned, the Imperials agree, why?! Well, did I not just explain that the Imperials had their asses chopped cleanly off and handed to them on a golden platter?! So, fast forward: 4E 186 or so, Imperials are rebuilding themselves, pooling their resources, building their army again, trying to reach the power that they once were before the Thalmor slaughtered them. General Tullius plans to rebuild the Empire and attack the Thalmor when they've regained power and THEN some. Then Ulfric Stormcloak, hungry for power and impatient, not wanting to wait or believe that General Tullius will attack the Thalmor in time, storms into Solitude, strides into the Blue Palace challenges the High King Torygg to a "duel" and shouts him to the ground before killing him. You know, because killing the High King was absolutely necessary for Ulfric's plan. Because how else would he ascend to the throne without being elected by the Moot and break all political bands with the Imperials so he could wage his own little war against the Thalmor for the religious freedom of his people. Because apparently, what the Empire couldn't do (with ALL 9 TAMRIELIC PROVINCES) Skyrim could easily do with Ulfric Stormcloak leading the great armies of Hold guards with marriage problems, because those are the only trained warriors in Skyrim besides the Imperials! Sure you've got citizens, what a great army they'd make with all their combat experience protecting their homes from Skeevers, wolves, and maybe the occasional sabercat or more rarely the cave bear! So, instead of rebuilding the Empire to go fight the Thalmor SUCCESSFULLY, General Tullius had to split his resources to go suppress a civil war and maintain order and peace within Skyrim to keep Skyrim with the Empire, because Skyrim is one of the Empire's most valuable and most powerful allies.
TL;DR: Ulfric Stormcloak is a greedy, selfish, ignorant, impatient power hungry fucking prick who doesn't know what's best for the people of Skyrim and probably knows little about leading an ACTUAL war. The only things he will bring to Skyrim if he wins the civil war is the slaughtering of Skyrim's people, and temporary freedom to worship Talos before the Thalmor come ONCE AGAIN, and rip Skyrim and Ulfric twenty new assholes.

Eb. I hate you so much. This is a choice between racism and banning a religion. You pick one. There is no better choice. Both are abominations. Preventing worship to one god pisses you off? Denying the rights of whole SPECIES pisses me off.

Let's also not forget that it's not the Empire banning Talos worship, it's the Thalmor enforcing the White-Gold Concordat with an iron fist and constant presence.
