Jessie smirked at Kate and sighed when the bot showed up. "One day, Box, I'm gonna get you a vocabulator." But he turned to Kate and asked, "How is this not exciting to you!? To land in a galaxy that we wouldn't have known existed for YEARS at current rates, we're left alone to it, and you're not even blinking twice? No competition! Easy pickings! Think of it! It's not one solar system! It's not a quadrant! We have a whole undiscovered galaxy! Primary deep scans are worth so much! What if we find civilization!?" They could but a whole new ship! Not that he'd trade the Mahalo for anything, but still.
((This is a bit short, but my last one was long, so it squares up.))

Box to beeped once, in really to Jessie's question. "Don't let it speak. I'm afraid that it'll take over the ship if it can." two beeps from Boxbot. "Don't lie, you would." two beeps. Kate rolled her eyes and replied,"we're also years away from help, and if we reveal our location, our golden chicken, becomes a crowded and busy place. The only reason that I'm worried is that we don't know about anything out there. It's an uneasy feeling." Kate explained. There could be beasts who were bigger than the small fry she'd scared off with the empty gun. Then again, it was kind of exciting. The new sights, the new sounds and the new dangers. It wouldn't be so easy to back away from money, just because of the risk, but Kate loved this job. The new things to do every day, new things to see, and the best part was that most people wouldn't do half of the things she'd done in a week. "Hopefully we can keep out of trouble, civilization on a planet always makes things a lot more complex."

"We never know what were're getting into. It's like, half the job!" Jessie said just before the console made a fast beep. He checked the instruments and smiled. "Box, start the deep scans. Kate, that system over there has a planet with an oxygen atmosphere. Ever huff straight oxygen? Because there's a lot of it down there. Don't bring the matches." He spun his chair back to the wheel, yes, steering wheel, and kicked the gas, again, just an archaic term. He brought them into a clean orbit on the equator and spun around. "To the 'porter!" He exclaimed as he dashed down the hall, past their quarters, taking a left through the cargo bay and arriving at the pair of teleporters. "If you want we can bring the Rumbler," The Rumbler was the small reconnaissance vehicle in the cargo bay that Jessie had won in a card game, "But there's a lot of trees down there so I dunno if we can use it, really."

"I know, but I'd rather not be eaten by something that I won't be named after." Kate said, mostly ignoring Jessie except for the atmospheric composition. When he finished, she grabbed her mask, just something to cover her nose and mouth in case of exploration on poisonous worlds, and put it on. Pure oxygen or not, it was a habit to wear it on a mission, and it'd saved her life more than once. She put all of her gear in place and turned back to Jessie, or rather where he'd been. She rolled her eyes and jogged lightly back to the transporter. She'd made it just in time to hear him ask about the Rumbler. "Probably best that we don't use it then, last thing we can pay for right now is repairing it. I don't know why we even needed it in the first place, we draw a lot of attention with it." she shook her head. "Anyway, we should head down before the planet enters some kind of ice age or something."

"We need it for those desert or ice planets where there's nothing for miles." Jessie reminded her. "Plus it has a really big gun." It was essentially a hovering jeep with a cannon mounted in the front. "Besides, the ladies love it." He stood on a pad and checked his blasters. When Kate got on her's he flipped the switch and stood there, whistling. "Old model." He reminded her. Note after note until he heard the ignition. Suddenly they were on the ground. A quick huff and he grinned again. "Yup. Don't fire anything ballistic." He reminded her, probably unnecessarily. Looking up, he stared into the leaves of the trees and thought aloud, "We need a good vantage point." But a tree wouldn't do. So he kept walking in what he believed to be North, according to his comm's compass. "I'm thinking there're gonna be a lot of herbivores here. But I don't see a lot of signs of predators yet."

When she was warped down, she held quick to her knife. She'd warped down into bad situations before, and she'd rather be ready than dead. "I wasn't going to shoot a flamethrower, now was I?" Kate replied sarcastically while following behind . "Why don't you at least take some plant samples? We can stop for a moment before continuing on." mostly, she wanted him to be quiet while she adjusted to the world's strange sounds. If she could know what was out of place or a rustle of leaves, then she could keep them both safe. Besides, all the foliage was just too good of a place to hide for predators. If she could just hear what was going on. "We can 'port back up right? It's a little too quiet down here." she asked, wanting to know their back-up plan. If something attacked and they could only just barely get away, they couldn't be stranded on the planet, because they were so far away from everywhere else.

"Of course we can port back. Gotta call Box on the comm and she'll pull us up. If your roomba doesn't like us enough to pull the switch I have a manual switch but it takes a extra time since I have to calibrate it from where we are." Jessie explained. What would be the point of porting down and not be able to port up. He crouched by a bush and pulled out a personal scanner, going over the leaves, moving from bush to bush, tree to tree. He took dirt samples and even found a small lizard like creature which he captured in a vial. Anything bigger he'd have to use a capsule. Capsules were an ingenious little device, and shrunk creatures down to size. But they were one use and expensive. He covered a large area and returned to Kate. "Think I got most of these plants. Dirt, some clay, little lizard bastard that almost bit me. About a hundred specimens in one go. Onto fauna, wouldn't you say?" Finally! "Hope we find something fierce. Something huge, too! That would be cool."

There was silence for about a moment, while Jessie was busy. It was too quiet, too still around here. Something was off, something was just a little too much. She looked around, trying to find the source of her unease. Her face was focused and serious, until the silence was broken by Jessie. "Shhhh!" her right hand pulled the knife out of its holster, ready to find whatever it was that was out there. A small rustle behind her drew her attention, and she turned to see what it was. Thwip. In a very calm voice, Kate spoke again. "Jessie. Jessie, call Boxbot. W-we need to go." she pulled out the dart from her shoulder. Already her head felt heavy and darkness was creeping in on her vision. She kept the dart, maybe they could analyze the poison if there was anything left in it. "Stupid... oxygen planet...gonna be the death of me." to her credit, she kept a straight face. She just silently vowed to strangle whatever was out there.
(This work okay? I just thought it was getting kinda boring, and a monster bursting from the bushes was so predictable.)

((It can't all be action, Rain. I was getting there... But this works too. We'll circle back to my thing.))
Suddenly Kate was telling him to call Box. He commed up bit got no reply. He started to calibrate their location when he felt a pierce in his neck. He clutched at it and fired wildly at the approximate direction with his off-handed blaster but didn't seem to strike anything. He felt faint and he felt his muscles tensing up involuntarily. Suddenly he couldn't control his body anymore and his vision was blurring. "Damn... It... Box..."[/ b] He let out before he fell to his knees. He was fighting it pretty weol but he couldn my move and eventually he fell onto his face, completely unconscious.
((I didn't know where you were going here so I left this very open ended.))

Kate awoke upside down. Her arms were free to dangle about, but her feet were bound by something. All she could see were more trees, but she was moving. What was going on? After blinking away more blurriness, she soon figured out that below her were tree feet. Feet... made from a tree. Cannibal trees. Just what this adventure needed. Kate was not impressed, nor was she happy to be swung about by her legs. At least the dart wasn't poisonous, and they were still alive. Speaking of, where was Jessie? She wiggled about and managed to find him unconscious and suspended in the same was she was. She relaxed, but started to form a plan. She still had her knife right? No, she'd pulled it out and probably dropped it where they had been before. She didn't pack another one, but she did know that it was probably best that she didn't pack any other weapon. All she had were guns, and given the flammable atmosphere... now she only had to wait and see what would happen.
